Rashanique Williams, the main character in the play, is also the Community Service Specialist at the Fifth Ward CRC. I am excited about the opportunity to...

A Promising 2008 A New Years Message from Kathy F. Payton, President, and CEO In 2008, Fifth Ward CRC will continue to build upon foundation and principals of comprehensive neighborhood revitalization, stabilization while capitalizing on the opportunities in 2008 for investment and partnership which exist in all areas of programming that support the comprehensive revitalization of 5th Ward. The organizational plan has been updated to reflect more achievable and realistic goals by the organization in light of the recent staffing changes, market shift, and funding. While this is a work in progress, the basis for establishing organizational and community goals are driven by the demands of the community and in response to the stakeholders of the 5th Ward.
How To Supplement Your Retirement Without Selling Your Home

Could you use some extra bucks to pay for medicine, a trip you always wanted, or money to make needed home repairs? Perhaps a reverse mortgage is worth looking into. Recently, the Fifth Ward CRC offered a seminar on reverse mortgage, Jeff Nieznay, a local loan officer, gave the seminar. We wanted to give our newsletter and web readers the facts about this very interesting option for senior citizens who own their own home. What Is A Reverse Mortgage? It’s a special type of loan that enables individuals aged 62 or older to convert some of their home’s equity into tax-free funds. Unlike traditional equity loans, you receive payments instead of making them. Who Is Eligible? Homeowner(s) are eligible, where the youngest is at least 62 years of age and occupy the property as their principal residence. Eligible properties include single-family homes, condominiums and townhomes, or a 2 to 4 unit dwelling. The home must be owned free and clear or have a remaining balance that can be...

Friends of the Hester House

The Friends of the Hester House is an effort to organize and re-engage supporters. The program allows alumni and others to expand the Hester House's capacity to serve by volunteering or providing financial/in-kind resources. As a friend, you will reap even greater satisfaction knowing you are making a difference in the lives of kids who face daily temptation to deviate from the path to success. You will be making a difference by warding off the influence of devastating poverty that often confuses parents who are too often tempted with instant gratification rather than what is best for the family. Most of all, you will create opportunities for individuals to cross the line of poverty and become a Hester House alumni rather than just more statistical data representing the plight of the poor.

Alone, our effect is limited but together, we can make a difference. Please join our other friends to ensure that the good work of the Hester House continues. As a friend you will be listed on our website, our newsletters, other printed materials and be invited to attend an annual homecoming celebration. Please join in, fill out the donation card included in this packet. Make your pledge and mail it in today. If you prefer, you can make your pledge and a completely secure donation online. On behalf of all of us at the Hester House, especially the children and seniors, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
